Wallace Wadsworth (1894–1933)

A version of the classic fairy tale. My edition was published in 1942 and originally cost 15 cents. The pages are fragile; the illustrations vintage.

Story was surprisingly violent for young children, but, does show much Give and Take leading up to a happy ending. "Stick! Stick! beat dog; dog won't bite pig; piggy won't jump over stile; and I shan't get home tonight!" She even goes so far as to wanting the butcher to be hung! Through cooperation, both her and her pig DO make it home.

Henny Penny, a chicken thinks that the sky is falling and she goes to tell the king and runs into other animal friends. However she never makes it to the king after she runs into the fox that tries to eat her and all of her friends, because she and her friends remember how busy they are and they all leave.

This book starts off with Henny Penny gathering nuts and she thought the sky was falling. Along the way she picked up more friends to take with to tell the king. They ran into fox who was going to show them the way, but he really wanted dinner. They didn't follow him so the king never knew the sky was falling and the fox did't get his dinner. Cute book for younger grades (kindergarten or first).
