The first and only time I ever heard about Paige VanZant was when she appeared on Dancing with the Stars. There was something very closed off yet bubbly about her but she just didn’t stand out in my mind personality wise. However, the jive she and Mark Ballas performed is cemented into my top 5 favorite jives on the show of all time.

Reading this book about her life helped me see a little more about what she talked about on the show when it came to her bullying and terrible times. I think its good for people like VanZant to come out and share their stories with the world so that others who might be going through the same can see that they aren’t the only ones in the world that are being bullied.

What’s interesting about the title is that she literally fought her way through life more than once. She details the events of what happened when she was at that tender age in high school where everyone just wants to be cool and accepted in a group but for some reason, it wasn’t okay that she happened to be doing really well among her friends. There were more than one occasions where the experiences she shared were graphic to the point where my mouth was hanging in shock at what I was listening to. Paige was sexually assaulted by several classmates, extensive and gross slut shaming bullying, and she was in an abusive relationship that led to a kidnapping.

Eventually, VanZant talks about how she came to train in fighting styles and how she came across the sponsorships she has now. It’s a really interesting story to read about and honestly, this could probably be a 4 star read but I personally didn’t like the narrator that read her book so I’m leaving the rating as is.
