Cole and Laila. Laila and Cole. Two completely different people who are complete and whole only when with each other. Their lifelong friendship is heart-warming, hilarious, absolutely endearing and so much fun. Cole is a protector, a creative master of edible perfections, devoted, loyal, and incredibly attractive. Laila is slightly flighty but powered by adorable optimism and love for people, even if her bandwidth only encompasses the tiny town of Adelaide Springs.
I loved their adventures in NYC and the pop culture references to the shows and movies filmed in the city. I was surprised that their story was not one of unrecognized love from one of the best friends but a struck-by-lightning moment of attraction for each other. Their banter was quite delightful and their romance was tender and guided by how well they knew each other. And, of course, there were Brynn and Sebastian who made the story extra special by being fantastic secondary characters.

As was the previous book in the series, this book is more contemporary romance than a romcom. It’s very enjoyable and will be a fun beach read. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Thomas Nelson and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

While I am all for people coming to Christ—rough pasts and all—I had numerous issues with the execution of this book. I won’t go into much detail because other reviewers have said it much better than I could. However, I will give a short list.

-Lead man is basically perfect.
-So much emphasis on physical love
-A bit preachy with God mentioned numerous times each page (most in reference to above point).
-Much of the plot was glazed over, loose ends not really tied up

I’ll give two stars since I did finish the book but I would be hard pressed to find a more infuriating and foolish lead character and she might not even be the most ridiculous person on the story!

I loved the concept of the book with the missed connection with a movie star and the drop in every year on the fated meeting date but the characters were just so so bad.

Fiona, the best friend, is beautiful and perfect and has cartoonishly exciting and glamorous jobs that she just hops between easily with no explanation of how or what her qualifications might be and she dresses in designer fashion and offers to support her broke friend but yet also can’t afford her own apartment even when she’s 40 years old?

And our lead character Olivia dumps a sweet, charming, successful, seemingly perfect man who loves her for no reason at all and then spends literally the next ten years moping after him EVEN THOUGH HE REPEATEDLY TELLS HER THAT HE IS MADLY IN LOVE WITH HER.

Oh and Olivia, who we are meant to think of as sort of a loser-ish, quirky sidekick type is also almost completely indifferent to George Clooney and several other movie stars wanting to flirt with her at a cocktail party where she is thrust into the spotlight as part of a bachelorette auction in place of Charlize Theron (!!!’) who had to drop out. OK that’s totally normal. (Seriously they don’t even treat this plot point as comedic! It just happens like it’s normal!)

Leading man Liam deserves much better that this woman.

I see in some reviews that this is supposed to be some kind of Christian fiction? I don’t get that at all
Unless the only qualification for that tag is that there’s no sex in it.

this was so wholesome it was almost too much. (she actually said golly.) i guess it's the religious aspect that tipped it over the edge for me. (that and the i'm-in-love-after-an-evening thing that i can't stand.) but the writing was fine and the sisterly love was nice.
