Who doesn’t like to read a western mystery story? I mean this is the first in my list and I am very pleased with the story, the writing, and the characters description, this book is short but so entertaining, the mystery and the story will keep your attention the entire time.

So we have the Deputy Marshal Jubal Smoak, who is after Quapaw bandit, Crow Redhand, they have a past so the Deputy wants to bring Redhand to justice, but the only problem is that there are clues that doesn’t match with the crime this time, so what really happened??… (plus d'informations)

This is the first Truman book I’ve read and the first book in the Jubal Smoak mysteries. This book follows Smoak, a US Marshal, as he tries to get to the bottom of a grisly murder. I love a good mystery, and this one is written pretty well. The twists and turns as Smoak works his way through the tiny threads are solid. I thought the name of the focus criminal that Smoak goes after (Redhand) was a bit on the nose, but the characters were solid. Smoak pursues Redhand with tunnel focus, almost to the point of ignoring the other clues and signs. It’s interesting because the whole story shows how tough Smoak is and how bad Redhand is, but you always get this feeling that there is something…more. A pretty fantastic read; I look forward to catching the next book in this series.… (plus d'informations)

Good western fiction has adventure, action, and suspense; you will find more than that in Dire Wolf of the Quapaw: a Jabal Smoak Mystery by Phil Truman. Traveling through the Quapaw tribal lands, Deputy U.S. Marshal Jubal Smoak is determined to find the man who could be behind the robberies and murders in the area. He knows one of them is a local Indian, Crow. The local legions speak of a dire wolf who is half man/half wolf who runs with a pack. He enjoys the kill too much to be a spirit; a crazed assassin would be a more likely story. Could Crow and the killer have teamed up to murder a local rancher? How does the beautiful Caitlyn fit into their plans? Jubal may not be a good shot, but his determination and drive keep him in the line of fire until he solves the riddle of what is haunting this ranch.… (plus d'informations)

Deputy Jubal Smoak is the main protagonist in this Western / Adventure / Mystery novel and he is on the hunt for the murderer of a Quapaw family. One of the suspects is an old enemy “Crow Redhand” and the other a drifter who was known to have had trouble with some members of the murdered family. The premise is will Smoak capture the right suspect before another massacre takes place.

I enjoyed the story of Dire Wolf of the Quapaw. I found the character development to be pretty good, and gave the characters extra layers of depth as the truth behind the plot was revealed. The dialogue was also very well done. Interaction in important scenes was quite punchy and gave a very visual feel to the writing. There were some plot twists that I didn’t see coming, which also added to the book’s mystique. A very entertaining read, with the most unlikeliest hero! Definitely recommended reading for any fans of the Western / Adventure / Mystery genres, especially those that like a crossover between genres.… (plus d'informations)
