William S. Triplet

The memoirs of Colonel Triplet are a very entertaining read, but the book is let down by several factual errors. For instance the amtanks were not built on the M5 chassis, but on the LVT 4. The M8 used the chassis of the M5 light tank, not a half track. The .50 cal quad AAA mount was installed on an M16 not M15. The 90 mm armed tank destroyer was an M36 not an M10. You can't really blame the Colonel for that after 60 years, but at least the editor could have checked his facts, there are notes at the end where I would have expected corrections to be listed. Still, I'll say it again I really enjoyed William S. Triplet's humorous and no holds barred view of the war, even if he does have a few things to say about my favourite (2nd) armored division. It would be worth getting hold of the other volumes in his memoirs.… (plus d'informations)
