I was happy I chose this. He is a role model for professional business. things would be much smoother if people followed his tenets

Excellent little book on leading and managing. The timeless ideas apply today, although the version I read retained many of the terms and says that are considered sexist and racist now. Even though some of the topics are dated (steno pools and operators?), the ideas remain useful.

This is a classic that must be read by all persons running or think of starting a business. Townsend's comments, though made in the 1980 are just as relevant today as then. Certain chapters are particularly noteworthy, such as Nepotism, the Smell of. and Computers and their Priests.

Author Steve Lance has chosen to discuss Robert Townsend's Up The Organization, on  FiveBookson his list of five books that explain the future of Advertising, saying that:

“At the beginning of my career Up the Organization was hugely influential to me because it told me that you could be part of an organization and still be a maverick within the organization. What Robert Townsend preached was how to break the rules and still fit in.”.
