William D. Taylor (2) (1948–2007)

A very well-researched and readable history of East Tennessee Confederates who fought in the Battle of Vicksburg. The author draws from diaries, official papers, correspondence, and other primary documents to paint a picture of what life was like for the soldier. Chapters correspond to months or partial months for the most part although there are single days represented in a couple of cases. One of the things that struck me (as a native of the state of Mississippi) was that the East Tennessee soldiers certainly did not view Mississippi as "The Hospitality State." The author, "Doug" Taylor, died as a result of an automobile accident before the book was published. I was fortunate to have known Doug as a colleague.
