A remarkable piece of research which the author began on seeing a photograph of his grandfather alongside his fellow officers in the 8th Berkshire Regiment. They were about to head off to the battlefields of Flanders in 1915. It is sobering to learn the the majority of the men did not survive the War. The author has sought to tell the story of every man and if possible make contact with any surviving relatives to source photographs and mementos which so enrich this book. Some of the stories are short, with little to go on others are worth several pages. All are moving. A labour of love if ever there was one.… (plus d'informations)
