Very short (shorter, in fact, than a Very Short Introduction). Read by Charleton Heston, who has a great voice if nothing else. Quotes by Schopenhauer are read in a over-the-top German accent that manages a cute sort of quirkiness rather than a stupid sort of annoyance. Not bad at all as a quick intro to Schopenhauer. Probably rates more than three stars, but not enough to round up to four.

This audiobook, well read by Charleton Heston in 1991, talks in some detail about Schopenhauer's philosophy and actually makes it make pretty good sense. It is well organized. The personal details of Schopenhauer's life are dealt with early on, then it provides succinct discussions of his various beliefs. The only downside is that the quotes from Schopenhauer are read in an exaggerated German accent (NOT by Heston), where every 'w' is pronounced as a 'v' and so on. This really detracts from the presentation. There are quotes from other philosophers and writers (and Schopenhauer's mother) as well--and they are all presented with accents of varying degrees of ridiculousness. What was the producer thinking? Aside from that, this is well written and organized. If you're looking for a brief intro to Schopenhauer that makes sense, look no further.… (plus d'informations)
