I read this book in 1970 Jr. High School....saved it all these years and now my youngest daughter just finished reading it......she liked it too.

I thought this biography of Pearl Buck was well researched, well written. She was apparently a strong woman with an excellent imagination. In her era Ms. Buck was a player in same NY social set as Eleanor Roosevelt, after moving here from China. Knowing Ms. Buck's background informs her work: She valued patriarchal society, orderliness, family, responsibility to the community, and she wrestled with unrequited love, and a special needs child. In her work there is beauty, inner personal turmoil, and self-discipline. Her insight and wisdom about China is everywhere in her work, which is enjoyable. Reading this bio is doubly good if you read "The Good Earth". I recommend this without reservation. Many public libraries have it. Speaks especially to anyone who lives in a land away from their own.… (plus d'informations)
