2023 movie #164. 1957. A crook (Calhoun) gathers a psychotic crew to steal the Army payroll from a small town bank. Nothing goes according to their elaborate plan (which includes blowing up a local high school as a diversion), because crime does not pay. An OK film but too long.

Inspector Luger is pulling a million dollar bank heist. Unfortunately, other than Rory Calhoun, his gang consists of psychopaths, drunkards, and womanizers. Cory Allen is great as always as one of the psychos. Mary Costa, who unfortunately made only a few films, is excellent as Luger's mistress who is posing as Calhoun's wife in the small town of San Felipe where the heist is to take place. Complications, complications. Not as good as the Lionel White novel it is based on, but enjoyable nevertheless.… (plus d'informations)

Frankie Kane is brought up in a Catholic orphanage and befriends Martin Cabell, a Jewish law student whose sister Julie becomes Frankie’s sweetheart. At sixteen, Frankie learns that he is himself Jewish and therefore has to be moved to a Jewish home. That prospect proves so awful that he runs away – and goes bad. Years later, he returns to the district and gets involved with a crime syndicate that his old pal Martin, now assistant district attorney, has pledged to clean up. Frankie however, bumps in to Julie again and, finding he still loves her, decides to help the straight-shooting Martin smash the syndicate. (fonte: imdb)… (plus d'informations)

A collection of modern-day fairy tales.

I had extremely high expectations for this show - reinforced by the exceptional first episode - so maybe I'm not judging it fairly. But The Twilight Zone is not everything I'd hoped it would be. The few great episodes make up for a lot, though. And even when it doesn't work, they're at least constantly trying to do something different.
