Hattie has gone for medicine for the cook when she is accosted by the Midnight Desperado. She is released and returns home. Shortly after that Jasper, a wealthy businessman, comes to her boss to ask for her help in picking flowers for a guest soon to be in his home. Her boss agrees and Hattie goes to Jasper's. Why does he need help? Can she do what he wants?

I liked this short story. I liked Hattie. She is smart. Jasper treats her differently than her boss does. When she makes certain connections, she lets Jasper know. I like how Jasper does not demean her. He has genuine feelings for her. I really want to know what their futures hold.

Deidra lost her parents in a fire the previous year. She was living on the streets when Paul finds her and asks if she would like to become a maid in his household. She accepts. Nothing happens between them until Duke speaks to Paul at his annual banquet for the wealthy of their town. Paul at first does not want to approach Deidra with their proposition but Duke convinces him. Will Deidra accept their proposition? Will they acknowledge their attraction?

I enjoyed this quick story. I liked Deidra. She was innocent but admitted to herself she would accept them because it was unknown. I liked Paul and Duke, although my 21st Century sensibilities kept getting in the way. I was not happy with their treatment of Deidra. When I thought of the time period this is written, the authors had it right (but I still don't have to like it.) I do wonder if it was a one and done for them. I hope not.

This is the first book I've read by this author, and I've definitely enjoyed it. At first, I started to think the stalker was one person, but the more you read, the more you're not sure, then another mental guess...etc, till you reach the end! Totally had me guessing - rather refreshing since I'm one of those who can guess the villain at the end of the movie halfway through. I'm not normally a fan of multiple POVs, but I can say the author made their views contribute to the overall experience! The book is much better than I originally guessed it would be just by reading the sample or publisher description. Thrilling, romantic, and the characters were complex.… (plus d'informations)
