This is the Betsy Ross story, plain and simple. It does mention the controversy surrounding the account, that some historians believe it and others don't and that there is no evidence to support or deny the claim other than the old family legend, but it tells the story. I liked the book. It wasn't one of those pieces of historical fiction that go so far to create authenticity that they sacrifice the reader along the way. It was simple and approachable and I enjoyed it for what it was.

This picture book focuses on Columbus's first voyage. It provides details of the journey, but is lacking in additional information about his other voyages. I used this book during our explorer unit with groups 3 and 4, but it could have easily been read with groups 1 and 2. I am still searching for Columbus books that meet the needs of the CCSS text complexity, but are short enough to use during center time. There seems to be an abundance of lower level picture books for the young or struggling readers, but not many for higher level readers.… (plus d'informations)

This book is about Columbus and his voyages on the ocean. He wanted to sail across the ocean to the Indies, but nobody believed he could travel across the ocean. They told him it was too big or would get eaten by monsters before he would be able to make it across the ocean. These issues weren't the only thing stopping Columbus from making his voyages, he needed help and it took the King and Queen seven years to finally decide to help. After about a month on the water his sailors were ready to go back, but Columbus made a deal with them that made them agree to stay. Two days later they found land, however, it wasn't the Indies. Since Columbus didn't find the Indies on his first try, he made three more trips and found America instead. 3rd grade… (plus d'informations)
