I love fantasy books and this one is amazing. The story just pulls you in and all you want to do is keep reading. The main character Emmaline the heroine of the story goes through a lot of things in a short amount of time. Shes very naive to whats happening around her in the beginning. Just a really great read that very well written.

I don't generally read fantasy, but I liked this one. The first chapter grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I received this novella through LT for my honest review.

In a few hours, I read this and the sequel, both engaging page-turners. This first book gradually introduces the reader to the fantasy world by following a young adolescent as she is also trying to find her bearings and discover her role. We see the beginnings of her journey, and we are left eager for her next steps... The development of her character is very interesting and seems original. Of particular intrigue is the Deer King himself...

Another aspect I'm curious about is the world-building, which is intended to explore colonialism through a fantastical medium. I was left curious how this would be developed, because there are only hints so far in this first book.

Overall, it was fun and insightful, and I look forward to future installments.

Finally read the second book in the Deer King series. It was everything that I had hoped for and more - just as good as the first one, and perhaps the world-building was even a bit better. Really enjoyed the change of narrator (although hopeful that Emmaline Rain will make a reappearance in book 3), and found the switch between the past and present very well balanced, and gave great insight into the happenings of the past while setting up the story for future volumes well. Ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, which just makes me desperate for the next book!… (plus d'informations)
