I really enjoyed Truly, Darkly Deeply by Victoria Selman that had to read her new book without a doubt. This for me is another case where a book is really good then I feel disappointed by the next even though I did enjoy it.

This story follows two sisters Finn and Izzy. Three girls go to a party at Turtle Lake and only two come back. The author says the story is based on true events but is a work of fiction but when Izzy makes new friends I couldn't help getting Charles Manson and his family vibes. This alone was enough to hold my interest.

I did enjoy the book but at times I found it a little repetitive. The story had its few twists with one that made me go back into the earlier part of the story to see if I was on the right track. The final twist I didn't guess but it didn't give me a WT... moment either. There are themes of child grooming and of course murder but the book isn't too graphic so just putting that out there.

I did enjoy this book overall but did find it pretty average. I will read more by the author in the future.

A charismatic man becomes very close to a woman and her daughter, in a relationship that spans several years. The man, Matty, is not what he seems to be. This is an interesting book that looks closely at what people want to believe of other people. In many ways this is disturbing. As a reader, I can see the obvious signs and don't understand why Sophie and her mother don't see things sooner, but with past events in their lives in mind, it's not always difficult to see why they wanted to believe only the best. This is indeed a page-turner, if not disturbing at times.… (plus d'informations)

The cover and title grabbed me, and when I read the blurb I knew I had to have it. I love reading about serial killers, but Truly Darkly Deeply by Victoria Selman is different from the usual fair…it’s about those left behind that have to deal with the fallout of someone they loved being a vicious, cruel killer.

Sophie meets Matty Melaren when she is twelve years old and falls in love with him. She looks at him as her dad, seeing she never knew her real dad. Her mother keeps secrets from her, and we all know that secrets never stay buried. They may have, if Sophie wasn’t determined to get answers and makes a trip to Battlemouth Prison, where Matty is incarcerated. He delighted in spilling the beans.

Truly Darkly Deeply by Victoria Selman deals with the emotional turmoil and devastation that Sophie and her mother, Amelia Rose suffer when Matty is imprisoned. Friends and neighbors shun them. Many tear filled sleepless nights dog them both. Even reading about it, I cannot imagine the anguish they go through.

There was no secret that Matty Melaren was a serial killer. When I first began reading, I was a bit disappointed because Matty was not the star. The more I read, the more I found that Sophie is the star and to walk in her shoes, or try to, the more I loved her. It may seem there won’t be any twists and turns, but I can promise you….THERE IS! The ending was amazing!!!!!!! I never saw it coming!!!!!! I urge you not to peek, because the ending is worth waiting for.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Truly Darkly Deeply by Victoria Selman.

[..] So if you’re wondering why I’m reviewing books at a slower pace, here’s your answer, and Truly, Darkly, Deeply is one of those novels caught up in the bottleneck.

Is it a bad thing? Well. Not really, because the delay made me realize something: I couldn’t remember the plot anymore less than a month after shelving it. If you’re grimacing right now, I wouldn’t blame you—alarm bells and the likes.
