Mariano Sciaroni

This is an excellent retelling of a small portion of the bloody littoral contest that was part and parcel of the Falklands War. Mr. Sciaroni enhanced the overall story by briefly describing in very simple terms the challenges of airborne ASW for the layperson without getting overly technical. Coverage of from both the British and Argentine point of view is also very even handed and consistent through out the book.
There's little tidbits throughout the book that really help define the combat environment such as covering the attacks on the Galahad and Sobral. While not part of the hunt for the de Mayo, they were indeed part of the story.
Overall? What you get is a brief book that covers the struggles of sailors and airmen from two sides that weren't ready to go war and how they carried out the assigned missions to the best of their abilities. The author pulled no punches in describing the obstacles encountered by both sides in regards to either their respective chain of command or the material condition of their equipment.
There's not much here for the modelers, or the serial number "train spotters", you'll get a few color side profiles of the principle RN submarines and Argentine aircraft and that's about it.
