Barry Sanders has received two Pulitzer Prize nominations for his works A Is for Ox and Alienable Rights, which he coauthored with Francis Adams. A brilliant analysis of why literacy is declining. Sanders identifies orality as the foundation upon which literacy is built. As the fruit of orality dwindles, as narrative awareness and fluency diminish, a new type of human is emerging - whom Sanders calls "post-literates."

This is definitely one of those highly depressing, but very eye-opening books that both excite me to read and also make me feel like our world is completely screwed. This book basically lays it all out there - the US military pollutes in absurdly high amounts, and no number of compact fluorescent bulbs installed by environmentally conscious citizens is going to do anything to help our environment if the US keeps on destroying other nations like it's been doing so well for the past few hundred years. I found the biggest absurdity in this book to be the breathtaking amount of oil that's basically wasted in stealing oil from other countries.… (plus d'informations)
