This play is a product of the 70s, and it shows. Set in a euphoric period when people believed in, and could say without irony, "The Year of the Woman", it follows the aftermath of a losing campaign for a woman candidate. The author clearly wanted to make the woman into some sort of statement for independence, so she made her a single mother - but a widow. It is a sad statement about how difficult it is to present women on stage as anything other than mothers or sex objects, even when you are trying really, really hard. So many people are willing to see the woman suggesting sex instead of the man as a truly liberated moment, but this just doesn't cut it. The play does not wear all that well, and it is slightly above mediocre for its time.… (plus d'informations)
