It's 1558 and a orphan acquires the patronage of Elizabeth I. Over thirty years later 'Noah Ames' is a barrister. He becomes embroiled in a murder and unfortunately comes to the attention of the Earl of Essex. What is the Earl plotting and can Ames uncover it.
Although an interesting tale, I did not like that the story was written in the present tense.

With the continuing story of Serjeant Noah Ames its 1599, London.
He has accepted a commission to investigate the Earl of Essex, meanwhile a murder is committed in the Tower, his daughter Lady Jessica has designs to remarry and a map of the English military positions in Ireland has been stolen.
An enjoyable read.
Again the story is told in the present tense, unfortunately.

Although the Queen has had Essex released in this year of 1600 will he have learnt contrition for his previous actions and now behave. When two men, who seem to have no connection to each other, are found dead, Noah begins to suspect that it is somehow related to Essex and possible treason.
Another enjoyable and interesting mystery in this well-written series.
