This volume includes Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, and lots of other familiar poets as well. It is interesting to see the selection in this volume, dated 1950, but originally published before that, compared to what a modern editor might select. The book presents the poems unadorned by introductions or footnotes, but there are nice biographies of each poet at the end of the volume. Still, I would have preferred a more interspersed approach.

The usual collection of short stories, poems and a few drawings of various types that go to make up 'Penguin Parade' volumes.
Included in this issue is an early tale by George Bellairs called 'The Red Flag'. It concerns a mild french council worker who is bullied by his wife and her mother and looked down on by most of the other people with whom he comes into contact. On day he is promoted to controlling the traffic by the means of a flag and this changes his whole life.

It is a slight but quite polished story of a french ecclesiastical gentleman of holy mien who is tempted but manages to resist the sin of pride. The story is directly followed by a short but informative note about Bellairs early life and how he began writing.
The remainder of this volume contains twelve other short stories and a couple of poems, none of which need delay the reader long. Also several wood engravings mostly with a flavor of the countryside, which are well-done.… (plus d'informations)

An excellent little series, though difficult to read as age has made the pages and binding brittle.
