I'm so very surprised by how much I liked this book. It was nothing like what I expected.

I was on a mission to find a book that sounded interesting enough to try by an author I'd not heard of before that's part of the Kindle Unlimited program and picked this one. Yay me for choosing this one!

If you like a book with some great twists, give this one a shot.

The well rounded characters and realistic setting of Yorkshire really work well in this novel. Even the flash backs, which is a device often hit-and-miss for me, subtly capture the time period - but still focus always on character. The retreat does these things so well in fact, that while I was reading it something happened when I was reading this book that very rarely happens in fiction.
I truly felt for the characters (yes even the husband - for a second).
