By the time he was 21 Wolfe had been involved in three wars, including the battle of Culloden, and in europe at Lauffeld, the biggest fight of the war of the Austrian Succession. The heir of a military family, Wolfe received a focussed military education. Proven efficient and well connected, Wolfe got command of the combined operation against the French Fortress of Louisburg in 1758, and after that sucess, went on to capture the city of Quebec in 1759, thus setting up the cesssation of that colony to Britain in 1763. The French preferring to retain several West Indian islands and their share of the sugar trade instead. Wolfe joins Nelson in the group of British heroes who died at the moment of victory, thus negating any need to shower them with practical rewrds for their service.… (plus d'informations)
