Ponders does a good job of capturing the struggles of a woman in a man's world, not only in the military but in the cockpit and in war. It was realistic and I found her ultimate solution bittersweet. Not overly captivating, but a pleasant read.

Ponders is a wonderful writer; her language is beautiful, memorable, touching.
But this doesn't mean she knows how to tell a story. I read about half of this book and often found myself thinking, "These words are like poetry - but what on earth is going on here?" I loved the first 2 chapters then it lost me. It switched from a narrator to 1st person. Chapter 5 really lost me as it skipped around from the past to the future. I never could tell if she had 1 or 2 kids. After chapter 5, I never did figure out what year it was. It was confusing and honestly I did not care enough about the characters to try and figure it out.
