Hinder is a unique and spell-binding new adult paranormal story.

The story is just about two characters who are looking for one another, but the problem was that great danger awaits them. At the age of 10, Ethan already got his power as an Earth Bender, but he also needs to find his partner, an Earth Wielder. Without their Wielders, Benders couldn’t do anything that’s why after 7 years, his power disappeared when he didn’t find his Wielder. Meanwhile, Alex has been hiding with her parents inside her aunt’s necklace because she is the last Earth Wielder left and her parents are afraid that something terrible will happen to her.

I love the idea of having a Bender and a Wielder. It is my first time to encounter such a concept even if I have read a lot of stories already about witches and other magical beings. The story did not fail to entertain me even though I’m not fond of the guy main character. The way the story was written is also impressive as it never bored me. The world-building is also excellent but with a little tweak to make it more logical and understandable.

What I didn’t like in this story is the main character, Ethan. I didn’t find him lovable enough, but I could say that he, together with Alex, was a developed character. But their chemistry was not that strong to pull me and ship them both. Ethan also has a flaw that I really hate, and that’s for you to find out by reading this book. On the other hand, Alex is definitely my favorite character. She grows as an independent character during her long and dangerous journey after she was finally outside the necklace where she was hiding for many years.

Another thing is having a lot of information about the world in the first few chapters, but for me, I like it because I was able to grasp what to expect in the story. But, I know that some readers might find it not okay so if you’ll read this book, be sure that you will pay attention to the details given.

Overall, I like it, so I’m giving this four arrows. I’m recommending this book to all NA paranormal readers, especially if you are into stories that talk about witches, magic, and other magical beings.
