Matthew Perryman strikes me as one of the more creative thinkers in the world of strength training. Here he combines ideas from many, many different sources (including those that are not directly relating to lifting weights at all, such as work from Outliers and Flow) in order to construct a somewhat different view of the process of building strength. While the conclusions are somewhat nebulous -- don't read this looking for a straightforward program to follow -- it is a though-provoking read and interesting all the way through. He comes across as a somewhat less folksy Dan John -- a little more science-oriented, but perhaps just as wise. Recommended for intermediate-advanced trainees.… (plus d'informations)
Interesting ideas on strength training in a high frequency manner, paired with exploration of the psychological aspects of lifting and the science of fatigue and recovery. I'm not sure if I've had enough time under a bar yet to try applying the author's ideas to my own training, but some of the philosophical bits hit home. I intend to do some more reading on the idea of autoregulation, either way.
Well-written for a book on exercise, even if the author did ramble a bit at times.
