Isaac Penington was born in 1616 to Puritan parents. His father (Isaac Sr) was a prominent member of Oliver Cromwell’s government.

Penington Jr committed his life to the Quaker movement from around 1658 and rose to become an influential promoter of the Movement. His writings are prized for their insightful and eloquent exploration of spiritual experience
