We are all born with the ability to create, innovate and question. Over time, we lost sight of this ability. Our brains take shortcuts to decisions. Problems stick and alternatives are out of sight, out of mind. Albert Einstein said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them”. The purpose of Mona Patel's Reframe: Shift the Way You Work, Innovate, And Think is to encourage people to reframe their problems by questioning these.
When creative people (that's everyone) come together with the right problem, mindset, and evaluation technique, they have a strong chance of coming up with amazing solutions. The steps Patel presents are easy to grasp, such as grasping the real problem, try a different lens, and ask 'what if'. Restistance or objections are BS Excuse Personas, like the blamer or bottlenecker. They're unmasked one by one. You'll see that these steps make room for divergent minds, and popping up of new ideas or possibilities to solve the problem at hand. The author highlights types of creativity, and the importance of empathy by stepping in the user's shoes as well.
By rapidly refining the solution approach and executing you can stay ahead of the competition. Practices established by The Lean Startup author Eric Ries can be picked up for that. Patel illustrates her Reframework with numerous case studies, advice from years of strategic design and innovation consulting. By sharing her personal journey, history her book gains authenticity. Reframe offers a refreshing view on onlocking your potential.
