Alexis Parker has been trained by the best, Mark Jablonsky at The Office of International Operations, but now she wants to go out on her own in order to avoid the red tape of working for such an organization. She is quickly hired by James Martin, who is a friend of Jablonsky, to provide personal security and investigate a recent series of incidents involving James and his company, Martin Technologies. When there is an explosion of a hot dog cart right outside Martin's company as he is leaving the office, Alexis is barely able to save him, so she steps up the investigation before Martin gets himself killed.

The premise of this story has been done extensively and better. Alexis seems like a poor excuse for an investigator, as she makes mistake after mistake and the local police are the ones who eventually solve the case. Her only real value is as arm candy for Martin since he seems so taken with her in a romance that never really takes off. The dialog in the book is over-the-top, cliched, and disappointing in a story where the climax seems more like a let down. Overall, this story, which came so highly recommended, was more like a waste of time.
