I mean, it's fine though much less entertaining than you'd think. But the second time the author wrote dismissively about people trying to make a living is where I had to bail. DNF at 15%. Sex work is work. You can say you won't do it without being dismissive of the profession as a whole. Being poor isn't a choice. Etc. A dollar was too much to pay for this.

To be honest I initially got this book because the description and cover were interesting. This first installment is free on Kindle so I didn't really have anything to lose by trying it. I really actually liked this book. Sofia is caught between being true to herself and what is expected of her. From the description I would not have expected for the book to include mythical creatures but indeed it does.

It is a fast paced read and I look forward to completing the series to see where Sofia ends up. The only thing that struck me as odd was the tweezed eyebrow line towards the beginning of the novel *shrugs* just seemed out of place for the era. I recommend this novel to those who like Greek mythology, fantasy & strong female characters.… (plus d'informations)

**** SPOILER ALERT ****
This is my first "taste" of Painter's work and I look forward to "tucking into" more of the author's work.
Painter has a deft touch at world building in this part of Sofia's adventures. I look forward, eagerly, to exploring this realm.
This story teaches Sofia a bittersweet lesson, namely that you don't always get what you want, or expect.
Will Sofia find love, happiness and fullfillment? Grab this book and find out.
In the interest of transparency: I was given a copy of this book. This is my own honest opinion.… (plus d'informations)

I'm definitely captivated by this unfolding story. Domna is a wonderful character and the balance of history to fantasy is intriguing. Looking forward to continuing the story. I don't think I've ever read a serialized novel before (except much later when the entire story has been republished as a single work), but I think this kind of epic tale lends itself really well to the format. On to the third!
