As a young girl and her mother take shelter for the night in their war-torn city, the whole world appears muted and dark. When the girl wakes in the middle of the night to find a bird watching her, she knows it's the one from her mother's stories, who flies down from the mountains to protect people from harm.

Just from the cover of this book, I was not expecting the story that is presenting inside the pages. The cover tells a completely different story from the one that is shared on the pages within.
This girl and mother and left stranded in a bombed zone with little to no hope of survival. With her mothers help in imagining a giant bird, this little girl is able to escape her reality for a short period of time before having to come back and figure out a way to get up and leave to hopefully a safer place. It was hard not to cry while reading this book. This story is well written and is definitely worth reading multiple times to keep breaking down the words presented on each page.… (plus d'informations)

Follows a young child and his imagination as he wonders about life in different places. He considers life in places of hardship, such as war, immigration journeys, child labor, and natural disasters. It ends by him reflecting that he is his own home, and that is a part of him wherever he may be.

Impactful and self-reflecting, a young girl wanders through life wondering what it would be like to live somewhere else. She ignites readers to consider the world around us through many lenses.
