Yes it's a one-trick pony, and a cynical marketing ploy, but it's still funnier than it has any right to be.

I have no idea why Alanna loves this book but she does! The plot is dull. She barely knows what a meerkat is, or Russia. But she likes the idea of dancing on the stage so maybe that's it.

Enjoyable enough I guess, especially for a throwaway humour book like this, even gave me a couple of laugh out loud moments. It only took me 40 minutes to read though and I would probably have liked it more if it had a lot more of the Orlov family history; the stuff you don’t get in the ads, but what was there was amusing and quite well produced. Another consideration is, ( and a little part of me can’t believe I am talking seriously about this book!) that even though I did get Aleksandr’s voice in my head it probably would have been a lot better in the audio book version although of course you wouldn’t get the rather endearing photos…oh my sweet lord its just an advert! I must go wash my mind out....… (plus d'informations)

The British are suckers for small, furry animals. The advertising campaign for the insurance comparison website comparethemarket.com and its alter ego, comparethemeerkat.com proves this. This book is a spin-off from that campaign. It wouldn't have been possible without sophisticated cgi and Photoshop. In the odd picture that is based on a pre-existing photograph, the Photoshop work is reasonably obvious, but otherwise it is a considerable achievement. One criticism: there's not enough cyrillic text used, especially as the creators of this book haven't shied away from using it at all. But perhaps I'm being overly picky.… (plus d'informations)
