Garrison Nelson is Professor of Political Science, University of Vermont, USA. He is the editor of the seven-volume Committees in the US Congress, 1789-2010 and co-author of The Austin-Boston Connection: Five Decades of House Democratic Leadership, 1937-1989.

5475. John William McCormack A Political Biography, by Garrison Nelson (read 6 Jun 2017) This is a big book--793 pages of text and footnotes, 72 pages of bibliography, and a 43 page index. It tells with great insight of McCormack's life from his birth on 21 Dec 1891, his time in the House from 6 Nov 1928 to 3 Jan 1971, to his death on 21 Dec 1980. In telling of the life the author (a history professor at the University of Vermont) tells of the political history for all the time McCormack was in Congress. The book is unfailingly interesting and one has to admire much about McCormack, who had his evening meal with his wife every day. The author's political views are admirable, and he is not entirely aiming to show that McCormack was always right--though McCormack was most of the time, even though he managed to get along with some not so admirable Southern congressmen and never wavered in his support of the Vietnam War.… (plus d'informations)
