Barbara Head Millstein (–2012)

I was weeding some of the excess and came across this book of photos from [b:Consuelo Kanaga: An American Photographer|1105125|Consuelo Kanaga An American Photographer|Sarah M. Lowe|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1266718531l/1105125._SX50_.jpg|1092053]Consuelo Kanaga, "an attractive, dashing kind of gal" who started as a newspaper photographer in San Francisco and made pictures of a Black houeboy/chauffeur in her family named Eluard Luchell McDaniel in 1931. She became known for her sensitive works of Black portraiture as seen in the Steiglitz Family of Man exhibition and in group shows at MOMA. Also, she is known for her work for New Masses, her photos of the labor strikes of 1934, and of Navajo children met in Taos. She is said to have embraced people and places outside of the mainstream American scene and her work is exceptional. I pored over this volume for hours.
