Two short coming-of-age novels: nothing fabulous or grandiose, just some low-key, entertaining reading. The Duplex follows the lives of kids growing up in a neighborhood just on the edge of the "bad" part of town. We see their ups and downs, learn their secrets, and see how they turn out in the end. The House on River Road is a little more edgy, focusing on a college-age group sharing a large house.
Once in a while, it's good to read something you don't have to think very hard about, and this book fit the bill. I liked The Duplex better, but both were good!… (plus d'informations)

From the cover: "Abe McNamara began selling drugs in middle school. The pay was low and the expectations high, but he was excited for the chance to contribute to the suburban drug trafficking organization run by his half-brother, Jason. Maybe, at last, Jason wou8ld accept him as a member of this family he was foisted upon after his father's death. He quickly finds that won't be the case. In high school, Abe develops the types of friendships he has sought for years and discovers that he has oe personality trait that Jason will not abide: compassion. By the time he is old enough to leave, Abe realized that to truly wash his hands of his past, he'll need to get them dirtier than ever before."

A quick & interesting read. Sometimes a little more violent than I like, but I guess drug trafficking is violent by its nature. Towards the end I was unable to put it down, because the action kept coming fast & furious. Recommend.

Fifteen short coming-of-age stories about four pre-teen boys in the summer of 1992, just before they enter junior high. Troy is the ringleader, Darrin is the sensible one, Rick is lit cannon, and Calvin is the young workhorse, who wants to be a member of the club so badly that he will do whatever the others say. They call themselves the Crime Doggs, after McGruff ("Take a bite out of crime!"), and as the summer passes, they work, fight, swim, flirt, and do what kids did before they had the luxury of video games. This book is great fun, even if you aren't a pre-teen boy!… (plus d'informations)

Here's a book I wrote myself. It's not very well-written. The storyline jumps about and it lags in places. The characters act older than they are and I tried to be too fancy with my writing style. But it's my first book and I love it anyway.
