Grade school children can learn about our supreme court justices through this book. Teachers can invite the children to talk about other grandparents and what they do for work.

This book is a biography about the first Hispanic U.S Supreme Court Justice. It tells us how she rose to her position and what she had overcome as a woman and a Hispanic woman in a male dominate work force. The central message of the story is that you can be whatever you want to be if you work really hard. Just do not give up on your dreams.

Review: This book is about a young girl who is home and writing letters to her mom in the military. The book is written fully with letters back and forth between mother and daughter. In the end of the book the girl gets a map that leads her to her mom hidden in the backyard. I absolutely love how it is written in letter form, it makes it different and unique.

Uses: I would use this to discuss why some children in class may struggle at times with sadness. I also would use it to discuss distance with the military as well.

Genre: This book is critical thinking because it is a topic hard to address. Children going through something like this is a hard subject and this book touches on that hard topic.

Review for "Meet My Grandmother: She's a Supreme Court Justice." Part of a picture book series called "Grandmothers at Work." This picture essay is narrated by Sandra Day O'Connor's 9-year-old granddaughter Courtney. She explains her grandmother's work as a judge and mentions the various activities they enjoy doing together like eating ice cream and going shopping. Recommended by ALSC and the Center on Aging, Health & Humanities.
