This is the story of McCormick's search for Robert Johnson's biography, his birthplace, family, death and relationships. What is most fascinating is that McCormick describes his methodology. The introduction, notes and afterword by John Troutman add depth by pointing out McCormick's struggles with mental health and his unacknowledged racism and classism. Troutman also relates in some detail the saga around efforts by Johnson's surviving family to wrest his legacy from McCormick and other blues specialists.½
