Cornelius McCarthy

A small (about 8" square) slim paperback of 64 pages which follows very much the same format as its sister GMP publications. The introduction, by Emmanuel Cooper, occupies about ten pages and is printed side by side in English, French and German; it provides some brief biographical notes and comments on the specific works. This is followed by the paintings, of which there are about 40, all in full colour. They appear one to the page and are reproduced to a good size, as large as one often finds in much bigger format books. There are also three small black and white pictures of his work include with the text.

Cornelius McCarthy is a contemporary British artist who is well known for his explicit paintings of men; beautifully simplified using clean lines and solid form. The paintings included here comprise entirely the young male figure, single, in pairs or groups, clothed and unclothed and anything in between, including more than one or two quite provocative images. These figurative paintings are beautiful, and the book is well produced, making this a very worth while publication.… (plus d'informations)
