I really wanted to like this more than I did. But there is no way to justify giving a book higher praise just because I have a freakish obssession for modern haiku. Only two of this six page book seemed to carry any weight to them, my favorite being "Rosary tattoo/exploring downward dog pose/She smells like Newports". McBride seemed as if he was trying to encapsulate small stories in his haiku, my favorite kind of the worn 5/7/5 poem, but made them a bit too vague, a bit too specific, all the same. There was not enough in a lot of them to make up a story, even with the description of where they "took place", for lack of a better description, heading each page. And yet, he kept bringing back ideas from previous haikus, giving little room for interpretation. A lot of this just felt very up in the air.
