**I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

I am a big fan of ghost stories and horror. When I saw this book on NetGalley, I jumped on the chance to review it. I'm glad I did. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but it kept my attention.

The basic premise has been used many times before -- television ghost hunting group encounters demon, much battling ensues. Add in some steamy sex and you have The Spirit Chaser.

The basic plot: Austin Cole stars in a hit reality show, Spirit Chaser Investigations. After one of his crew is injured, psychic Casey Lawson joins the team. The twos butt heads a bit as they have different opinions and thoughts about how the show and spirit hunting should be done. When the team meets up with a demon and one of their own is attacked, they pull together to defeat the evil in their midst.

This book kept my attention and I enjoyed it, but it had a tendency to be a bit cliche. At one point, a ghost hunter spoke to the spirit they were hunting and said "What do you want?'' and the spirit replied "Get out!'' Yeah.....um.....a bit overused? But I think with the saturation of this portion of the horror/paranormal genre -- ghost hunters, reality tv, demon hunting, etc -- anyone's story would seem a bit old hat at times.

The book is a mix of horror/paranormal and romance. Everyone needs a little hot action after hunting ghosts and fighting demons, right? :) The story was well told, jumping right into the action from the first page. At times Mayor's writing style was a bit rough and the dialogue could have been better, but this is her first book. I look forward to reading her next one!

All in all, a good read. I enjoyed it. Anyone who is a fan of paranormal romance would enjoy this book.

I received a copy of The Spirit Chaser by Kat Mayor from Netgalley for review. The book was a mixture of romance and horror. Probably an even split between the two genres. The main characters are all part of a group similar to current cable ghost chaser reality shows. The group consists of people with different skills, technical as well as paranormal. The houses they investigate are truly haunted, some by benign spirits, some malevolent and some demonic.

I really enjoyed the horror aspect of the story. The way the team planned their houses as well as how each team member functioned was fascinating. The entities were pretty cool. Whether they were evil or not, they were written with vivid description so the reader could imagine getting the crap scared out of themselves discovering one. The action scenes were well written also.

I was not wild about the romance part of the book. Some of the sex scenes seemed like they were there just to be sex scenes. I can understand ones that advance the plot (and I cannot go into more detail because of spoilers) but not all of them did. Granted, my experience with the romance genre is limited but I feel the book would have been better with more horror and less sex.

I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. If the romance was toned down, it would have easily been 4.5 stars.

This book has everything and seems so real. The premise is the psychic or medium got traumatised doing a walk through on a tv show. So the producer, Austin, had to find someone else to fill his shoes. He hires Casey. It seems as if the two don't get along well at all. That is so much fun because you can sense the sexual chemistry between the two.

The paranormal investigations show they make is like "Ghost Adventures" on steroids. Where Zac is not psychic, Casey can see ghosts and demons. However, she is unable to see that a female demon wants Austin in the worse way.
.
This book is high energy all the way through. It is a high testosterone, hard core book. A very nasty demon is out to shake up everything. It looks like there is no human to stop it from accomplishing its possession.

Austin and Casey become an item. They had to find a way to tell the rest of the team that works on the show with them. The book is not one who ends the way we expect it to, but it is very intense. This book is for paranormal, demon-interacting, scary-loving people. It is also great for people who are out to find a change from the norm. It is so worth the read.

Thank you to CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform and NetGalley who gave me an e-ARC of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Things That Go Bump in the Night...

Austin "Control" Cole is the spirit chaser in Spirit Chaser Investigations, a popular cable show. He's the only member of the team without any paranormal power, but he's handsome, has charisma and screen presence, which makes the show so popular. He's also stubborn.

Casey Lawson is a psychic clairvoyant and the daughter of a Baptist Minister. Her family thought her power was evil and she left home as soon as she could. She's opinionated, tells it like she sees it, pulls very few punches and doesn't gloss over things.

Barrett MacDowell, lead psychic on the show, is more sensitive than all the other team members. Due to problems with the last show of season three he had to leave. School friends with Casey, he recommends her to Austin as a replacement.

SCI, Spirit Chaser Investigations, has likable team members who get along for the most part. Each Investigative team member has his/her own power that works well other members' powers. Liked all of them and their families.

The book drew me in from the start and kept my interest throughout the emotional roller coaster ride of the story. Loved all of the characters, especially Casey and Barrett. Took me a bit longer to warm up to Austin, but did get there. Also liked the variety of ghosts and other supernaturals, good and not so good.

More than an enjoyable read, The Spirit Chaser brought me to tears...I can count on one hand the books that have done that. I actually read it a second time to see where and/or what brought me to that end and found that I was just as caught up in the story as with the first reading. And, again, I cried. I can only say WOW and give the author kudos for a wonderful story. Thank you Ms Mayor.

I received a copy of this book from Net Galley for an honest review.
