Interesting and wide ranging anthology, with lots of different points of view included. Some parts of the world are covered much more throughly than others. Includes some pieces which reflect not just on the places visited but also the contrast, for good or ill, with England. Not too sure why Dylan Thomas and James Boswell appear, perhaps the compilers saw them as honorary Englishmen.

A lovely book of travel anecdotes from books written from the 1640s to the 1930s. Lots of the old favourites (Byrons Lord and Robert, all those intrepid lady travellers etc) and both funny and amazingly timeless. Divided into the Grand Tour countries and further afield, a great collection to read through and one to dip into - a real find!
