The ironclad ships between 1860 and 1900 are fascinating to me, I guess because their design is so radically different from what came before. This book contains 38 paintings plus a number of drawings of ironclads from all nations that are described in great detail. A pleasure to look at.

In 1930, airfields were a rarity. Aircraft companies, given the unreliability of internal combustion engines, primitive avionics, and unpredictable weather, believed that an airplane could carry its landing strip with it, if the field were water. The brief but brilliant age of flying boats was born. Scottish Master maritime artist Ian Marshall captures these magnificent machines in perfect detail, rendering more than fifty watercolor paintings of flying boats and their ports-of-call. See: Air & Space Magazine, January 2003, “Seafarers Aircraft that plied the world’s waterways.” Illustrations by Ian Marshall

Not a pretty picture book.

Great stories complement the fine illustrations. A very good book.

This is collection of Ian Marshall's superb paintings of transition era warships. Most are ironclad vessels of the British and American navies; a few are not. Included with the artwork is some fascinating narration regarding the era.
