I bought this series hoping my son would read it. It was written by someone who's work I was familiar with because of the Writing Strands series. (Used for homeschooling) It's a coming of age story that is written in a way that helps the reader not only see the problems the protagonist faces but read his thought process while he tries to resolve them. What parent wouldn't want their child to read, enjoy and learn at the same time?

Unfortunately, my son never read the series. To lessen my guilt for wasting the money and because I was curious, I read it. It's definitely outside my age group so as expected, I did find it simple, slow and the passages overly explained or drawn out. Those are things that make me still wish that my son will read it some time.

One thing I did enjoy was, reading the book along with Analyzing the Novel: Dragonslaying Is for Dreamers. I learned a few things about reading and if my son does ever read it I should be able to help him get a better understanding of how and why a story is written a certain way.
----------------

Protagonist has a unique way of killing dragons that I have not read in any other books yet. Nicely done.
