This was great. I went through it a couple times - first to gaze at all the detail in the illustrations, which were amazingly spooky, then to try and find the cardinals that are apparently on each page (I did not succeed!) and finally to actually grasp the cadence of the words without being distracted by the illustrations. I haven't seen the short film but I'm going to get on that. I especially liked the angry flying moustaches, and the pops of colour from the cardinals (the ones I could find, anyway). Gorgeous!… (plus d'informations)

This is a really wonderful, rare book. The art is fantastic, and the storyline is different and unique. It's about a woman who doesn't fit in (something some of us can relate to quite well!), but who finally finds her place in quite an unexpected but lovely way.

Highly, highly recommended. I would also recommend not getting this as an ebook--I am not sure what it's like, but it's just a few dollars more for the hardcover, and it's so worth it. It's a very high quality art book, and it's one of those books to savor and linger over the pages--_real_ pages. It doesn't have a dust jacket, it has one of those covers--I guess the closest I can think of is library binding; where the cover is printed on the hardcover binding (I used to work in a library and a bookstore--you'd think I could do better than that) but it's my favorite kind of hardcover binding, and the _feel_ of it is so nice. The pages are thick and glossy and it's one of those books you just want to treasure.

As an added fun bonus, the author/illustrator has hidden a cardinal on each page to search for. One still remains hidden, at this point. :-)

A wonderful book for any time of the year, but October is a great time for its release. Valentine's would have worked as well. :-) I look forward to other works by Mr. Marcone.
