Brightly coloured and designed to encourage questions and further discussion, My First Book of Space was written by astrophysicist and official Star Trek science advisor Erin Macdonald. I think it is most appropreiate for Toddlers and preschoolers. The text doesn't speak down to kids but rather playfully states facts. And the illustrations tie in with Star Trek which is cute and fun. There are plenty of opportunities to reflect on the text and ask questions - which is great for engaging children.… (plus d'informations)

From planet Earth, where we live, we can look up at the night sky and see SPACE, the final frontier.

We trekked to the moon, a place with no air and many craters. But there are eight other planets in our solar system that we have not visited. We’ve learned about them with satellites and probes.

Would you like to visit one of those other planets? Would you like to travel into space?

=========

This board book introduces space to the youngest readers, using original STAR TREK ship illustrations against photographs of planets, moons, nebulae, asteroids, and dwarf planets.

Filled with full-color illustrations, the book is both informative and captivating while supporting science, technology, engineering, and math education for the youngest readers. This entertaining look into the final frontier is sure to please young STAR TREK aficionados and would-be space explorers alike.

Highly recommended.

Interesting and educational.
Erin has a great voice and knows how to make very complicated concepts approachable for sci fi fans.
However, I don't watch as much sci fi as I read, so I literally didn't know about 99% of the examples she uses. Even then, this was very enjoyable and I did learn a lot. Also, I now have more tv shows added to my tbw.

I don't think this book really got the right mix of science and sci-fi at any point. The explanations were okay for some of the scientific pieces, but some of the more advanced concepts felt a bit rushed. The sci-fi bits were met with enthusiasm by the author, but not enough analysis and exploration.
