Alexander McCall Smith was born on August 24, 1948 in Zimbabwe. He was a professor of medical law at the University of Edinburgh, but he left in 2005 to focus on his writing. He has written over 60 books, including specialist academic titles including Forensic Aspects of Sleep and The Criminal Law afficher plus of Botswana, short story collections including Portuguese Irregular Verbs, and children's books including The Perfect Hamburger. He is best known for the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. He also writes the Corduroy Mansions, Isabel Dalhousie and 44 Scotland Street series. He has received numerous awards, including The Crime Writers' Association Dagger in the Library Award and the 2004 United Kingdom's Author of the Year Award. - ALEXANDER McCALL SMITH has a double existence. He is a Professor of Medical Law, but also an author who has now written over fifty books on a wide range of subjects. These range from specialist titles such as 'Forensic Aspects of Sleep', (the only book on the subject) to 'The Criminal Law of Botswana' (also the only book on the subject) and from the widely translated 'The Perfect Hamburger' (a children's novel) to 'Portuguese Irregular Verbs' (a collection of stories about eccentric German professors). His collection of African stories, 'Children of Wax', received critical acclaim and has been the subject of an award-winning film.

Le bon mari de Zebra Drive (8) par Alexander McCall Smith
La vie coule doucement à Zebra Drive. Mme Ramatsowe enquête, son mari tente d’élucider une affaire et l’assistante démissionne sur un coup de tête. Des enquêtes sans drame, des personnages décrits avec bienveillance et un univers africain chaleureux. Après quelques volumes cependant, le modèle s’essouffle et peine à se renouveler.

Dans le second volet des enquêtes de Mma Ramotswe, le lecteur croise un couple d’amoureux, une femme de ménage jalouse, des orphelins adoptés, un jeune Américain disparu et recherché par sa mère… Un opus un peu plus sombre que le premier, mais toujours d’un tendre exotisme et témoin de la passion de l’auteur pour l’Afrique.
Grâce à l’héritage paternel, Precious Ramotswe ouvre l’Agence No 1 des Dames Détectives. Un roman chapitré par enquêtes qui englobent certains aspects de la vie quotidienne au Botswana. Un premier volume plein d’humour et d’humanité qui promet une série savoureuse.
Se passe à Edimbourg, en Ecosse donc.Le personnage de Bertie jeune garçon de 10 ans très lucide est charmant. Alexander McCall Smith est toujours agréable et amusant.
