Anne Marie Macari is the author of five books of poems, including Red Deer, She Heads Into the Wilderness, and Ivory Cradle, which won the APR/Honickman first book prize, chosen by Robert Creeley. She coedited, along with Carey Salerno, Lit From Inside: 40 Years of Poetry from Alice James Books, afficher plus and her poems and essays have been widely published in magazines. She Heads into the Wilderness par Anne Marie Macari
Definitely check out the sonnet sequence "Their Eyes Were Opened" which comprises the bulk of this book.
Macari's poems are definitely from a feminine viewpoint. I'd love to know how many times she uses the word "blood" in this collection, but I'm too lazy to go back and count. Birthing is probably the strongest theme here, but she is not sentimental. In fact Macari is pretty tough. She also writes about the Garden of Eden, love, sex, death, and... washing dishes. I enjoyed the collection.
