Great pictures and good, short bios of just about everybody who was anybody in rock up until 1988. Don't always agree with the author's opinions, but I nearly wore this book out thumbing through it, so I can't give it anything less than 5 stars.

Great for Music Trivial Pursuit

Highly readable enecyclopedia of rock which first appeared just as punk was emerging. The second edition in 1978 included some punk acts and it has been updated several times since.
The first edition had "New Musical Express" in the title but this was dropped for subsequent editions.
Artist bios and limited discographies are included for each entry and there are plenty of photos as well as album covers.
