A pacy first person account of a small aspect of the UK's recent involvement in Afghanistan: how a force of Gurkhas held a district compound in the town of Now Zad, dealing with repeated attacks and harassment from Taliban fighters. There is vivid description of close quarter fighting, which is often intense, and the constant stress of living in a dangerous environment. ½A very readable, acronym filled account of a Gurkhas training and subsequent experiences in the siege of Now Zad, which was a particularly difficult seige in the Afghan War. Exciting and accessible, a very good introduction into the world of the Gurkhas and also of modern combat.
