I absolutely loved AN IMPOSSIBLE DREAM, the second book set in this epic fantasy world by Ellie Lieberman. Sare is a servant working in the castle and has to navigate a very tense situation with some superiors who are allies and some who abuse her and her friends. I loved the world building and characters so, SO much. This was a fantasy novel with a romance subplot, but it had a dash of women’s fiction vibe to it too (which I loved!), with strong female characters, especially Madame Hayworth, the supervisor who both disciplines and protects Sare and her friends Elsbie and others, and the Queen, who is in an interesting position of her own, guiding and helping Sare and the others in whatever ways she can… but also trapped due to societal constraints. The queen’s sons also play a pivotal role in this book, and Sare has key relationships with each of them, which I found were very well written. The slow burn relationship between Sare and Fra was especially sweet. Loved this! 5/5 stars.… (plus d'informations)

Loved this adorable Christmas children’s book with Brigid and her basset hound Basil. The Christmas story is heartwarming, as together, they have to solve the mystery of Santa’s missing cookies, and the illustrations are adorable. This is a lovely story for young readers and would make a lovely holiday present! Includes a cookie recipe at the end! 5/5 stars.

SOCIETY’S FOUNDLINGS is a novella that tells the story of four young men on the cusp of adulthood who are all living in difficult circumstances. Clem, Math, Sampson and Carver are all related in some way (brother, cousins, friends) and live in extreme poverty, scraping by on meals of old popcorn one of them gets from a video store job, trying to survive abuse at home, depending on each other when they have no one else in the world. Life is hard, but they have each other and that fierce loyalty shines through even in the face of them having so little in the way of material possessions and security. I loved the way this shifted to show the story from each character’s pov. The slow reveal of information was very effective. I enjoy all of Ellie Lieberman’s books and particularly enjoy that the author writes across such a wide range of genres. 5/5 stars.… (plus d'informations)

I loved SOLVING FOR X, a great sci-fi novel with a post-apocalyptic zombie feel. The novel jumps you right into the action with great showing and not telling, allowing the reader to piece together through dribs and drabs of information about an outbreak and an epidemic and that now there are the infected out there beyond the walls of a compound where our main characters live. The story centers on a few characters, Erik, a young person in the group, Carlyle, who leads teams out into the dangerous wilds of the city, Jenna, an artist who uses her art to resist. I loved the emotional meat of the story, how all the characters wanted to hold onto little bits of their pre-outbreak lives. Lovely themes of censorship and art. I especially loved the character of the memory keeper. This was a real treat to read! 5/5 stars.… (plus d'informations)
