This book is a must-read for anyone who is interested in the intersection of Queer Theory and Marxism. (Which, in my opinion, should be everyone.) Holly Lewis did a great job of breaking down large concepts in this book; with that being said, the first chapter in this book is very difficult to read. This chapter is all about different queer/feminist theorists and philosophers whose work continues to inspire people who theorize on queer lives. If you are not familiar with the works of Foucault, Derrida, Lacan, and many others, this chapter will take quite a bit of research on the side in order to get through. Chapters two and three of this book are radically different from the first. Lewis presents the reader with many practical applications of queer theory and takes on many imperialist ideas (i.e. homonationalism and homonormativity) that are perpetrated by queer/trans academics and queer/trans people who work on a global scale. The final part of the third chapter presents the reader with a very detailed critique of colonialism that I thought was magnificent. If you have read this book, please let me know and I would love to have a conversation about it. :)… (plus d'informations)
